Summary
Edit
Serena is now having a full-fledged affair with Tripp Vanderbilt, much to the disapproval of her family and friends. Tripp takes her to one of the Vanderbilt vacation homes where they decide they only want to be with one another, even at the cost of losing other important things in their lives.
But later, Tripp goes to meet with his wife, Maureen, and lies to Serena, saying he is with his grandfather. Maureen still wants to be married to Tripp and they strike a deal. She will not tell Rufus about Lily's secret if he agrees to stay married to her. She tempts Tripp with his burgeoning political career and persuades him that it's a win-win situation if he remains married to her in public and with Serena in private. She will be his Jackie Kennedy and Serena-Marilyn Monroe.
Serena finds out that Tripp is lying to her and is devastated. She seeks comfort in Nate, who is there for her despite her spurning him. Serena decides to leave Tripp, who insists on driving her home. On their way home they get into a car accident. Tripp calls Maureen for support and moves Serena into the drivers' seat so it looks like she was the one driving. At the hospital, a furious Nate punches Tripp in the face. Nate stays with Serena in the hospital.
Meanwhile, it's the anniversary of Bart's death, causing Chuck to doubt himself and his relationship with his father. As Bart pesters Chuck in his subconscious, Blair goes to Lily for help and the two visit Bart's grave together. At the hospital visiting Serena, Chuck breaks down emotionally as Blair comforts him.
