The Grandfather is the 19th episode of the second season and the 37th overall.
Springtime on the Upper East Side, where the winter chill is supposed to be so last season. But when mittens and scarves are still all the rage, the best thing you can do is just button up and hope for warmer days.
Having lost everything, Blair spirals out of control and acts completely out of character by living on the edge. Serena and Chuck are both severely concerned about her change in personality even though she rejects Serena's pleadings and scorns Chuck, still angry with him. To upset Chuck even further, Blair takes up with Carter until Serena convinces him to leave town.
Vanessa convinces Nate that it may be time to forgive and forget when it comes to his mother's Kennedyesque family, The Vanderbilts, who abandoned Nate and his mother when they needed them most. Once Nate integrates into the Vanderbilt family again however, Nate is torn between his family's expectations and his plans with Vanessa.
At Nate's family reunion, Blair rebelliously insults everyone and rejects Chuck; Serena and Dan make up after she finds out that Dan and Rachel had sex; Nate and Blair comfort one another for the first time after breaking up in Season 1.
When Chuck goes to Blair to win her back, he sees Nate's jacket at the Waldorf's.
