Yes, Then Zero
Season four wraps up with an explosive finale, including the return of Georgina Sparks and Constance Billard mean girls Kati and Is, a cameo by "Gossip Girl" author Cecily von Ziegesar, a performance by Airborne Toxic Event and, oh yeah, a few very juicy cliffhangers.
The episode begins with Serena and Vanessa travelling to the Constance party to find Charlie. Serena suggests that Charlie's behaviour is not her fault, but Vanessa is unconvinced. Meanwhile, the pair begin to snap at each other over Dan. Eventually, Serena says they should just tell Dan together and find Charlie together. At the Constance party, Dan realises that something is wrong with Nate and Raina, but Nate refuses to talk about it. Instead, he points out that Dan looks shaken up and Dan admits that Charlie asked him to call her Serena while they were kissing. Nate is surprised, but Dan is distracted when he sees Chuck arrive as he thought he was going to rehab. Nate promises to explain everything later. Chuck approaches Eleanor and asks after Blair. Eleanor says she must be there somewhere but advises Chuck to say goodbye once and for all and let Blair go.
Dan asks Eric if he has seen Charlie, when suddenly Serena, Vanessa, Chuck and Nate arrive, all trying to talk to each other. Chuck asks after Blair, but Dan doesn't know where she is. Meanwhile, Vanessa and Serena are looking for Charlie and Dan admits that she was acting strangely earlier. Chuck decides to go to the Empire in case Blair is there and Nate accompanies him. He reveals that he told Raina about what her father did and Chuck is furious, explaining that there will be repercussions. He is most interested in finding Blair, but Raina appears and apologies for her behavior towards Chuck. Chuck asks if she has seen Blair, but she hasn't. Meanwhile, Russell takes Blair to Chuck's new hotel and traps her in a room. She manages to secretly call Chuck so that he can hear what is going on and discover where she is. She asks why Russell is doing this and he explains that she is the one thing Chuck loves most in the world. He keeps flicking on a lighter.
Back at Constance, Georgina appears but is bored stiff with her new husband, who she accuses of marrying her just to impress his colleagues. She admits that she married him to secure Milo's future and live in his loft. She walks off and discovers Dan. She suggests that he is up to something and asks to get involved, but Dan refuses to tell her what's going on and walks off. Meanwhile, Eric calls Lily to tell her about the party. Rufus asks if Charlie has been found yet but Lily isn't worried and just asks Eric to get Serena to call her. Meanwhile, Dan discovers Charlie drunkenly dancing and pulls her away. Charlie is annoyed with him but Dan apologies for over-reacting earlier. He suggests they go somewhere to talk. However, Charlie criticizes him for leading her on and pushes another guest over so that she can run away. Vanessa arrives and Dan suggests that they need a new plan. Georgina has seen the whole thing.
Serena is looking at old school photos when Headmistress Queller approaches her and asks how she is. She adds that she is slightly disappointed that Serena decided to go to Columbia as she wanted her to get away from New York. When she has gone, Serena is approached by two young pupils who ask whether she chose Nate or Dan. Soon, Georgina arrives and says that she is bored and wants to get in on the scheme. Serena refuses, but Dan and Vanessa arrive explaining that they've lost Charlie again. They all receive texts from Charlie, reading: "I'm sorry, goodbye". They decide to split up to look for Charlie but refuse to involve Georgina. Later, Georgina walks past Charlie, who has overheard the conversation.
Back at Chuck's building site, Blair asks why Russell keeps flicking his lighter and he explains that things are taking longer than expected. Chuck, Raina and Nate arrive and run up to find Blair, but Raina points out that she can smell gas. As they arrive, they hear Blair trying to placate Russell by saying that she managed to find a way out of hating the Bass family and he can too. Russell is not convinced and again begins to flick the lighter, but Chuck bursts in with Raina. Raina says that she forgives Russell for the fire, saying it was an accident, but when he hands over the lighter she announces that he is going to jail and she will not be visiting him. Later, as Nate and Raina give their statements, Blair explains that she needs to go and find Louis. Chuck offers to drive her and Blair thanks him. She explains that she rang him because she couldn't see to dial 911 and he was still on her speed dial. Chuck apologies for his behavior and suggests they have a drink to calm Blair's nerves. She agrees. Meanwhile, Raina tells Nate that she wants to go home - to Chicago. The pair hug.
Blair and Chuck hijack a bar mitzvah and begin dancing and smiling. Meanwhile, Georgina finds Charlie, who is looking for an open window for some "fresh air". Georgina tells her to go to the top floor. Soon, Serena arrives, and Georgina pauses before telling her where Charlie went. Elsewhere, Vanessa goes to the loft on the look out for Charlie, but instead she discovers one of Dan's manuscripts, 'Inside'. She settles down to read it. At the Constance party, Louis is staring at the door waiting for Blair. His mother arrives and suggests that Blair isn't coming - he needs to give up. Louis insists that Blair will be there. However, back at the bar mitzvah, Blair pulls Chuck into another room and the two start kissing and have sex. Serena arrives in a room on Constance's top floor and discovers Charlie standing by an open window. She begs her not to jump but Charlie tells her that she knows everyone thinks she's crazy. Serena says that Charlie can be helped and proposes getting Dan, but Charlie says he doesn't like her. She says she'll never be like Serena, but Serena suggests it's not that great being her. Meanwhile, Dan calls Vanessa to find out if she has found Charlie. Vanessa reveals that she read 'Inside' but Dan is furious that she went through his belongings. Vanessa is impressed with the book and reveals that she never realized Dan actually wanted to be part of the Upper East Side group. Dan says he could never publish the book as he would be an outsider forever, but Vanessa tells him not to care about who he hurts or what people think of him. Dan reminds her that these people are now his friends and family, but Vanessa tells him to man up and publish it. Dan hears from Serena that Charlie has been found and angrily ends his conversation with Vanessa, telling her to put the book back and get out of his room. They end the call on bad terms and Vanessa steals Dan's manuscript as she leaves. Chuck and Blair head to the party and Blair admits that she will have to tell Louis that it's over. Chuck asks if she loves Louis, and Blair says she does, but not like she loves Chuck. She explains that with Louis, her love is lighter, more simple and makes her happy, but with Chuck it's intense and all-consuming. She expects that Louis will have left Constance by now as she has been so long. Chuck tells her to drop him off at Constance and then take the limo to the consulate. When they get to Constance, Chuck is surprised to find Louis still waiting. Louis says that he believes in Blair and knows she will figure it out and arrive. At that moment, Blair appears as Chuck left his jacket. She turns to Louis and says they need to talk, but Chuck interrupts and says the pair have his blessing and he is pleased they are getting married. Later, Blair finds Chuck and asks him why he did that. He explains that she deserves to be happy and says there is a difference between "great love" and the "right love". He points out that at the Empire State Building he didn't wait for Blair, but Louis waited for her all night. He asks how she feels about the night, and when Blair admits that she feels terrible, Chuck tells her that she is feeling guilty. He admits that he feels guilty too and suggests he is growing up. Blair says she didn't want to give Chuck up yet but he kisses her on the forehead and announces that she is the most powerful woman he knows. He says they need to let each other go and the pair tell each other: "I will always love you." Louis is waiting for Blair on the stairs and she walks over to him and thanks him for waiting while she said goodbye. They kiss.
Back upstairs, Charlie says that everyone wants to be like Serena and she can do everything she wants. Serena reveals that she has just realized she has never made a decision - about college, Nate and Dan, going to Paris - because she was afraid of hurting people. She says she ended up hurting them and herself. Charlie steps down from the window and tells Serena she is there for her. She asks if she would choose Dan or Nate if she could do everything again and Serena gets out her phone. She invites Dan and Nate to meet her there and when they arrive she apologies for not figuring things out. Dan says they have already forgiven her but thanks her for her apology. Charlie also apologies for everything she did and Dan decides to take her home. Downstairs, she says she wants to ring her mum but when Dan has gone she calls someone and says: "I thought you should know it went perfectly. See you soon." Georgina arrives and Charlie claims she shouldn't have been off her meds. However, Georgina suggests that Charlie was never on medication. She adds that she won't blow her cover but says that things are getting "dull" and hands Charlie her number, explaining that she should call her if she's ever back in the city.
Some time later, at the Van Der Woodsen apartment, Blair is preparing to spend the summer with Louis in Monaco, but is civil when she says goodbye to Chuck. Dan asks Blair if she's really getting married and she confirms she is - and, more surprisingly, that Dan will be invited. Dan reminds her that if she ever gets lonely they can watch movies over the phone and Blair reveals that she was already planning to do that. Charlie appears with her bags so that she can travel back to Florida. She hugs Serena goodbye, before saying bye to Dan. She admits that she really liked him and Dan says he liked her too. Meanwhile, Nate and Chuck return home and Chuck admits that Blair shines when she is with Louis, whereas he just brings out her dark side. He says she should be with Louis. Nate is impressed that he is maturing and suggests that they spend a "lost summer" together. He spins a globe and tells Chuck to point at a location. Chuck smiles and they discover where they will be travelling to. Elsewhere, Blair packs for Monaco while Serena packs for California, where she is spending the summer with her grandmother. She explains that she needs to be alone for a while. Blair tells her that she can always come to stay in Monaco. Meanwhile, Dan decides to spend the summer in the Hamptons with Eric as the city is getting him down. Rufus asks if he misses Charlie, but Eric says it is not Charlie Dan is sad about. Rufus suggests that Dan could do some writing while he is in the country but Dan admits that his writing days are behind him.
However, Vanessa secretly takes his manuscript - marked anonymous - to a publisher. The publisher is hugely impressed with the work and asks where to send the checks. Vanessa hands over her address, claiming that she will pass them on to the author. The address is in Barcelona.Serena travels to California and is distracted when she sees someone reading The Beautiful and Damned. She stops to speak to him and soon discovers that he is working on a movie adaptation. However, the guy admits that he is supposed to be doing a scene-by-scene comparison between the book and the script but hasn't read it. He asks Serena for help and she agrees, but at that moment his boss - the director David O. Russell - shows up. David is impressed by Serena, who soon reveals that she is a big fan of his work and has read the book, before quoting a line. He asks if Serena wants to prepare him for the meeting as Serena's new friend looks on in shock.
Meanwhile, Charlie arrives back in Florida and is greeted by Carol. She hands over a bag of blank checks that she stole from the Van Der Woodsen home and Carol thanks her - but calls her Ivy. She pays Ivy a lot of money and Ivy thanks her for hiring her. Carol explains that now her family won't come looking for the real Charlie.
The episode ends with Dorota cleaning up after Serena and Blair have left for the summer. She empties the trash in the bathroom - without realizing that there is a positive pregnancy test in it.
